sunday mornings

Updated: Jan 18, 2021

It’s Sunday morning, almost 7am, and I’m writing. ⠀ Honestly, I should probably be sleeping (because sleep is so precious when there’s a toddler and a three week old in the home 😩), but I actually *feel* like writing today, and I’ve learned that you better just wake up and do it when that happens. Because that’s when some of the best stuff just flows out of your brain and appears on the page. That’s why it doesn’t matter that a snoring baby is sleeping on your lap or that you are in the worst possible position for your achy lower back. You write anyway. ⠀ As I was typing a scene for book #2, deja vu struck: I have done this before. I wrote CORONET with Vivian sleeping on my stomach, and now I’m writing something new as Sofia rests against me, creating a rhythm with her quiet breaths. ⠀ I guess this is what I do now: I have daughters and write love stories 👯‍♀️🥰😂 Because with or without careful planning, those are the things in my life that get the most love and thought and attention, even when I’m tired and my back hurts. ⠀ When I was a little girl, I always thought being a writer sounded pretty glamorous, and I hope my girls feel the same way. I hope they think of me, their tired, determined mom (currently dressed in a drab brown robe with wild hair) as “glamorous.” 💁🏻‍♀️😂 I hope one day they’ll hold my books in their hands and think, “She did that with us. We were part of something beautiful and frustrating and fun. We were part of something she loved.” Because they are. They are right here with me as I do this, right next to my heart ❤️
